Here are some tips for solo recording artists. The biggest element a solo artist needs is a long term committment to their art and the courage to follow through on their vision in the face of adversity and constant discouragement from family, well-meaning friends and colleagues.

Be Real
Open yourself up. Talk about things that are real. Base your performance on experience and knowledge. Take your experiences and relay them to your audience in a way that will relate to them too.

Stop Making Excuses
Most people have plenty of excuses, often elaborate and dramatic, about why they haven't made it. Take responsibility for your own career and spend your time figuring out ways to OVERCOME obstacles. Don't wait for anyone else to do it for you, and DO IT NOW!

Listen To Your Inner Voice
Do the material and sound that YOU like. If you like it, there will be plenty of other people out there that like it too. If you created the most bizarre sound on earth but were able to capture just 2% of that market you can still have an incredibly strong career.

A big pitfall to artists in general is trying to guess what the general public will like. The general public is not, contrary to popular opinion, stupid. YOU ARE part of the general public. Go with what you like!
