Does this sound familiar? You're a music leader at a church, you want to record but you're on a limited budget and not 100% sure if your group is ready, and you're a little confused about how to co-ordinate the recording with how your group performs live.

There are LOTS of options and approaches for church recordings. The first step is to contact us for a consultation. We can answer your questions and provide you will additional options you might not have thought of. Until we meet with you, here's some tips to get you started:

Finances
Most churches consider their recording as part of the outreach and ministry of the church. It is normally approved by the board and paid for with outreach funds. We strongly suggest you do a run of 1,000 copies. 1,000 copies is the magic industry number for the beginning of great price breaks. Any smaller run is much more expensive per unit.

Many churches opt to giveaway the album in exchange for a free will donation. This provides outreach, keeps you non-profit on the actual album, and also can minimize your royalty payments for cover songs.

Recording
Let us record your group as they're use to performing. Don't throw too many new variables at your group in the recording studio. Your group should already be comfortable with the music tracks they will be using and their positions should be similiar to that used during the worship service.

Choirs
You're going to have a couple weak singers. Try to gracefully position them near the back or a little off axis of the microphones (Our engineers will be happy to be the "bad guys" here).

When you correct one singer in front of the group, try to correct others at the same time so they don't feel singled out. This can work great: If there's a particular passage that a singer just cannot get, tell them to lay out on that particular section. You don't have to mention them by name. Most people know when their the one making the mistake. By letting them lay out you avoid them embarassment and get a quick fix in the studio.

Why is this so important? There's usually no way to fix a poor choir performance when the offender is right on the microphone.

Soundtracks
Road Records staff can create custom soundtracks at affordable rates. We are happy to provide you with single songs or soundtracks for entire albums.
