You're here because you want to record or get your project "to the next level". Now what? The first step is to decide WHY you are recording. Is it a burning passion you have committed your life to or are you trying to reach a target market? Without trying to make judgement calls on the best approach, we will give you a starter guide here to help you get in the right direction.

IMPORTANT
Most artists get so wrapped up into future promotion, booking, etc. that they forget about the MUSIC! Focus on developing your art, the rest will come. Many artists spend more time getting caught in the hype than they do working on developing themselves. THINKING about it for 20 years does not count as development. How long have you really been working at it everyday? Start today with a firm committment.

ELEMENTS OF PRODUCTION
At Road Records recording studio we provide all the elements you will need to bring your production full circle. Your producer is there to facilitate whatever you need for your project. This may be as simple as overseeing the recording process. Or it may include material development, contracting studio musicians, lyric revisions, suggestions for different approaches on arrangement and anything else that will help you to make your project as strong as possible.

You have a burning passion for the art of it all and could care less about whether people like it or not, often called "Art for Art's Sake"
If you have a dream for something out of the ordinary and that little voice inside you gets excited when you think about it. DO IT! Don't let anyone talk you out of it. Everyone and their brother will tell you that you're crazy, don't listen to them. Some of the best art and productions are from people walking their own path.

This sounds SO simple in words, but is actually a very difficult thing to follow through on. Of course you have to have a few people you lean on for suggestions. This should be your producer and any of your immediate production staff or entertainment consultants. The worst people to listen to for input - Your Family. Your family typecast you years ago and probably can't see the vision you have for yourself.

A strong support group is essential. If there are people that don't support your ideas and your are committed to your ideas, distance yourself for a while. That is an important element of success.

I want to target a market audience
Listen very carefully to what's been going on in the last six months for your particular style. Your production staff and recording studio should be studying what's hot for your particular style, and trying to match the style or to predict what will be coming out in the future from the same genre.

Don't do what you THINK people will like. Example: A lot of people that don't know country try to write country songs, they usually fail miserably. They don't understand the market or the audience. This holds true for many other styles too - Rap, Christian music, R&B, etc. The market you target should be somewhere within the ballpark of what you're comfortable with and sincere about.
